Sofia, the forgotten city

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria and the 15th largest city in the EU (1.3 million people live here) is not the favorite destination for tourists, however all conditions are given to make our time as pleasant as possible, not least it's much cheaper than other Europen countries. Those who visiting Bulgaria, prefer the beaches or ski resorts although this modern, eclectic city has plenty attractions for visitors. Religion is a very important part of Bulgaria’s culture, so it’s not surprising that there are lot of churches and Ottoman mosques in the city and we find here a very interesting mix of different religions. Sofia's historical past is very rich, so the galleries and the museums tell us stories about the ancient times. However, not just the historical buildings are exciting, Sofia is also famous for the beautiful parks, which provide a pleasant spot of refreshment and relaxation for the visitors.



The city is located in a valley, between the mountains. Several rivers cross the Sofia and it is also famour for 49 mineral and thermal springs.



Those who like keep their spendings under control, Sofia is a good choice, because the all services is cheap, restaurants and accommodations, also.


Bulgaria is a great choice for a trip at any time of year, since it has four distinct seasons that offer their own separate attractions.

The spring and summer see less rain than most other parts of Europe.


Bulgarian gastronomy Bulgarian cuisine basically has the characteristics of the Balkan gastronomy. The locals like to serve various salads as an appetizer, including the famous shopska salad. Dairy products are also very delicious.There is a drink called Rakia, which made by distilling apricots, plums or grapes, Bulgarians have a funny phrase about it: “the psychotherapist can help, but Rakia is cheaper . ”😊


Stews are often served on the table, which are made with lamb, goat, veal, chicken, or pork. Various grilled sausages are also very popular. Bulgarian yoghurt is also famous, the Balkan people generally eat various dairy products, the most popular cheese is "Sirene", which is similar to Feta.



In the Bulgarian cuisine we can even find mix of the Middle East, these dishes are baklava and musaka.
