With the Everest base camp Nepal is the mecca of hikers. Many climbers has tried to conquer these peaks and this is big challenge for those who want the test their borders. This is an incredible colourful country with thousand sights and intense feelings.
Kahtmandu is the largest city of Nepal, one million people live in this chaotic and always busy capital. Next to the ancient thousand year old churches we find modern houses, the historical buildings and the functionality of the modern life fit together well here. We can't find another region on the earth where we can visit so many world herritage in one place.
Kathmandu
The traffic of Kathmandu is also chaotic, like in India, the drivers don’t really deal with traffic rules, they use the horn in every situation. Public safety is good, prices are low, although tourists get everything a little more expensive, this is a general Asian rule. The food is similar to Indian dishes, anyone who likes Indian cuisine will not be disappointed in Nepal.
Nagarkot is famous for beautiful view of the Himalayan mountains (especially the sunrises offer a special view) but good timing is important because in bad weather the clouds hide the mountain peaks.
The Tamang Trail (which is also a World Heritage Site) is another attraction in Nepal that passes through several Tamang villages. The people living these villages are Tibetans who came from the cross-border Tibetan Kerung, settled here and acquired the Tamang ethnicity. Their culture and traditions are similar to Tibetans. Between the monumental mountains we can admire terraced fields, healing natural springs and tamang monasteries.
Bhaktapur is an ancient Nepalese city an hour away from the big chaotic Kathmandu, which is important cultural and historical heritage. There are many festivals and cultural events here. Temples, pagodas, beautiful squares, Buddhist shrines and monasteries, the city has many attractions.
Bhaktapur, Durbar Square
The detox-cleansing yoga retreat is in the small village called Nagarkot mentioned above. During this 10 days retreat, we can only focus on ourselves, learn stress management, mindfulness, meditation and breathing techniques. Ther are various yoga classes, and here we can put down the problems that weight on our shoulders, all in a supportive community, in a wonderful environment, with a Nepalese approach.
We can also take part in a cooking course, hikings, waterfall tours are organized for us in the nearby villages, and we can see some world heritage sites as part of a guided tour. Delicious, healthy (and vegetarian) meals are provided daily, the house is surrounded by a beautiful garden and organic farm, the ingredients come from here. The groups are small so they can help everyone with personal development. It is worth booking from March, when the weather is pleasantly warm during the day, although the nights can be cool. Tour itineraries include jungle tours, the Tamang trail, and a visit to ancient Bhaktapur.
