Attractions in and around Orvieto:

-The Cathedral, the largest and most beautiful building in Orvieto. The Dome is a gothic marvel with a façade full of colourful mosaics, sculptures and ornaments. The inside of the Cathedral is also impressive, full of frescoes and altars. The most interesting part of the Dome is the Chapel of San Brizio, where Luca Signorelli painted the scenes of the end of the world.

- The Fountain of St. Patrick, one of Orvieto's most unique monuments. The fountain is a spiral staircase 62 metres deep and 13 metres wide, built in 1537 to provide the city with a water supply. The fountain has two separate sets of stairs leading down and up, separated from each other.

-Etruscan Museum, one of the most important museums in Orvieto. The museum is housed in a 13th century palace and displays over 6,000 objects related to the Etruscan civilisation.

-Albornoz Fortress, one of the best viewpoints in Orvieto. The fortress is a 14th century castle built by Cardinal Albornoz to control the city. Today the fortress is a park where you can walk, picnic or just enjoy the panorama.

-The tunnels: there are more than 1200 tunnels under Orvieto, dug over the centuries by the inhabitants for shelter, escape and storage.

-Did you know that Orvieto has a Chapel of Miracles, where a 13th century miracle took place? A priest, who doubted the transformation of bread and wine, was celebrating mass in a nearby village when the bread began to bleed. Pieces of the bloody bread were taken to Orvieto and are preserved in a chapel near the Dome

-Did you know that in Orvieto there is a garden of monsters with strange and scary statues? The garden was built by Count Pier Francesco Orsini in the 16th century to express his grief after the death of his wife.

On excursions around the town, you can discover beautiful landscapes such as Lake Bolsena, Lake Corbara, the Paglia River and Monte Cimino.
