Beaches:


Naxos has more than 90 km of coastline with many beautiful beaches. The beaches range from sandy, pebbly, rocky, wide, narrow, bustling, quiet, organised, wild, so there is something for everyone. The most popular beaches are on the west coast of the island, where the water quality is the best and the sunsets the most spectacular. Examples include Agios Prokopios beach, voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and Agia Anna beach, next to the village with its white houses and blue windows, which is famous from the movies. If you like water sports, don't miss Plaka beach, where you can go surfing and diving. And if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, you'll find hidden coves and small villages on the east or south coast of the island, where the sound of the waves is all you hear.


History:


Naxos is famous not only for its natural beauty, but also for its rich historical and cultural heritage. The island has been inhabited since ancient times and has played an important role in Greek mythology and history. For example, it was the birthplace of Dionysus, the god of wine, who taught the people of Naxos how to make wine. Here is the famous Portara, a huge marble gateway, the remains of an Apollo temple that was never completed. The Portara is the symbol of the island and from here you can admire the stunning sunsets.

Naxos is proud not only of its history but also of its culture. The people of the island are very hospitable, friendly and cheerful. They love music, dancing, festivals and traditions. If you visit Naxos, don't be surprised if you are invited to a wedding, a village festival or a folk festival where you can taste local delicacies, listen to the famous Naxos folk music and learn the typical Naxos dances. The island is also home to many artists and craftsmen who bring local products such as ceramics, weaving, woodcarving and cheese making to an artistic level.

Naxos is not only a pleasure for the eyes, but also for the senses. The cuisine of the island is typical Greek cuisine, but there is something extra that is typical of Naxos. The island's fertile land and rich waters allow local ingredients to be fresh, tasty and varied. Naxos dishes include fresh fish, seafood, meats, vegetables, fruits, spices, honey, olive oil and, of course, cheese. Naxos cheese is one of the island's prides and there are several varieties. The best known is graviera, a hard, mature cheese made from the island's own cows. Graviera is perfect for salads, sandwiches or just on its own. Another popular cheese is kefalotiri, a salty, hard cheese that is usually eaten fried or fried. A third cheese you must try is mizithra, a soft, fresh cheese used for desserts such as the famous Naxos lemon cake or Naxos rice pudding.


How to get to the island of Naxos?

From London, it is a 4 hour flight to Mykonos and a further 30 minutes by boat to Naxos.
