Izola, the hidden Slovenian gem near Koper

Izola is an old, traditional fishing town, one of Slovenia's charming places to explore, located halfway between Koper and Piran, but less visited than Piran.

The coastline of Isola is 8.5 km long, with several beaches, including sandy beaches and rocky shores. There is also a dog beach and a wheelchair-friendly beach. You can also go for a spontaneous swim, leaving your towel on a rock and taking a dip in the sea.

This place is the seafood lovers's paradise as there are plenty of fish restaurants in the town, but you'll also find one of the best pizzerias in the country (Gostilnica Gušt), and Primavera pizzeria. And if you're just in the mood to eat quick something while exploring the town, try Veni's sandwiches, which are big and delicious, and big enough to keep you satiated.

Fortunately, there are no big shopping centres here which can destroy this pleasant narrow Italian atmosphere. If you're looking for more shopping possibilities, Koper is an excellent choice (10 minutes by car and bus).

And why is this small Slovenian town still so lovable? Wonderful sunsets, walking along the promenade, with many sailing boats, are simply stunning. For those who like to jog or run, Izola is paradise, with so much running places right next to the sea. The locals here are very nice and friendly, and you can often see them sitting on benches in the parks. The market is also worth a visit if you want a real local experience.
