The origin and history of Icaria's name:

Icaria comes from Greek mythology, named after Icarus, who flew towards the sun but got too close to it, so the wax that held his wings together melted and he ended up falling into the sea. The island has a history dating back thousands of years and has been home to many civilisations, including the Greeks, Romans and Byzantines.


What food can you try?

Icarian cuisine is rich and delicious. Local specialities include soufiko, a vegetable dish, a local cheese called kathoura and pitarakia, a small stuffed pie.


How to get to Icaria?

Getting here is an adventure, but it's worth it: from London to Athens it's a 3 hour 45 minutes flight, and from Athens it's a 7 hour ferry ride to Icaria
