Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, is not a typical party island like Mallorca or Ibiza, it is mainly visited by families or those who looking for a quieter holiday. One of the specialities of the Sardinian coast is the exploration of countless smaller, hidden bays and it's ideal destination for those who would like to avoid the crowds.
The island is also a mecca for hikers, because of the many mountains and hills. The early summer months and September are the most ideal months to visit Sardinia if you want to avoid the crowds. Basically, the northern areas of the island are more visited, while the small villages of the east and west are quieter.

On the west coast of Sardinia you will find this small hillside town with charming colorful houses and with a castle. The town is not located directly on the beach, it is located on the banks of the river Temo, perhaps that is why it is not the number one destination for tourists on the island. Walking through the narrow streets, you can admire the iron balconies, enjoy the authentic Italian atmosphere, and get an insight into the lives of locals who enjoy playing chess or playing ball games in small parks until late at night. If you visit here, you should not miss the local specialty wine called Malvasi.

La Pelosa Beach is a real oasis in Sardinia, 2 km from the port village of Stintion, the water is similar to the Caribbean, it is crystal clear and the sand is brilliantly white. It is also a paradise for divers and snorkelers.

Cala dei Gabbiani Beach is located in the bay of Orosei, Punta Ispuligi. The water here is crystal clear and the sand is white. It is worth taking enough water and some food with us, because there is no restaurant here, also important to know, we cannot reach it by car: we can sail from the nearby ports of S. Maria Navarrese or Arbatax by motorboat or one of the private boats.
