Updated: Mar 3, 2023

When we think of the Czech Republic, Prague the first destination that comes to mind for us, but Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic (after Prague), is also worth a long weekend or a few days. Unlike Prague, Brno has the advantage of being much less touristy, so you can get a more realistic view of the Czech Republic without walking into the tourist traps or being charged the inflated prices for tourists.

Brno is a beer paradise for beer lovers, with a wide range of Czech beers.

As for attractions, the two main sights are the Gothic Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul in the heart of the Old Town and Spilberk Castle. A visit to both sights is a must for travellers.

Villa Tugendhat is another iconic building of the city, built in 1929 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002. Interestingly, when it was built it was considered extremely modern, a building with huge floor-to-ceiling glass walls that used air conditioning for heating and cooling.

For lovers of gastronomy Brno offers a wide variety of choices, from modern to traditional cuisine. And for those who want a taste of the nightlife, there are plenty of nightclubs, bars, pubs and if you get tired, a night bus service makes it easy to get home from anywhere in the city.
